1.6.2012 - Service Dogs for Veterans with PTSD

Service Pets for Service Vets is helping train a German Shepherd, "Heinz", for an Army soldier diagnosed with PTSD. Heinz is a German Shepherd in training for seizure alert, interrupting nightmares, and providing attentive 24/7 watch that will allow his solider match to start the healing process with his service dog.

Three Ways to Help:

Make a Referral

Let us know of someone who may have an interest to know more about our FREE program or who might qualify to receive one of our certified service dogs.

Become a Volunteer

Join our Rescue Identification Team (RIT). We train volunteers to identify dogs from rescue/kill shelters that would qualify for training by federal inmates in the Wounded Warrior Assistance Dog Training Program. We are always looking for healthy, young dogs that have the capacity to be trained for service level support for our military soldiers in need. Or join our Medical Evaluation Team (MET) to help assess, coordinate, and implement appropriate services and support for program clients. The team is comprised of social workers, psychologist, and nurses who collaborate directly with a client’s primary mental health care or medical care provider to monitor and adjust necessary support and services as she/he proceeds thru the service dog program.
